This short book is a reproduction and transcript of the journal of Henry Wellings, who brought his wife Lizzy and young family (Thomas 5yrs and Willie 4yrs) to Australia in 1858. During their voyage in the ship David McIver to Sydney, Willie died and was buried at sea and Isaiah was born.
Henry's journal speaks of the hopes, struggles and tragedies they and the many passengers on board experienced as they set out for a new life in a land unknown to them.
Note: This 20-page book was copied, transcribed and published by John Wellings (Henry's great-grandson) in June 1983. Available copies are limited and from the original print run in 1983.
This publication was not initially intended for distribution other than to family who would value the historical record rather than the quality of the printing. The print is faded and some covers are slightly marked, but one copy per person will be made available if ordered.
Cost: A$5.00, plus Postage.
